eat cake

In great FAM-forum tradition, I give you: Cakeballs...

Sounds weird, tastes evil. They are so good. And so easy. All you do is take your stale, left-over cake, mix in a few globs of frosting, form into balls and roll in melted chocolate chips. And eat. A million.

More cake: Mikay recently had a birthday. She wanted a flower cake (in December, she's so cute!). My mom suggested using fruit roll-ups for the flowers when I was lamenting about how I somehow got passed over by the amazing cake decorating skills gene that she and most of my sisters (and even sisters-in-law) possess.

Because it seems you can't buy fruit roll-ups without those weird tongue tattoos anymore, each got wiped down with a damp dish cloth before being cut with a cookie cutter and place on the green frosted, round cakes. Mikay liked it. I liked it. And actually the fruit roll-ups tasted yummy with the cake.

(I made Betty Crocker's recipe for a yellow cake and frosted it with butter cream.)

Your "cake balls" sound like they would be tasty. I'll have to give it a try.

My sister and I like to put a slice of stale cake in a glass and cover it with cold milk. Once the milk has saturated the cake, we give it a quick stir and enjoy eating it with a spoon. Yummy.

what a great idea - and execution - on the fruit roll up flowwers! Imma try that some time.

My husband would appreciate me making cake and cake balls ... I am typically not a cake gal.

I love cake. In any form! Anna LOVES M's cake! Guess what I'll be making in June for her birthday?

That is a beautiful cake. I am going to remember that idea!

I read about those cake balls on a couple of different blogs. The first time I read about them, I thought to myself "eh", then I saw them on another blog and thought "hmm...maybe they are good". You really got me, though, by mentioning it's a good use of leftover cake. We rarely finish a whole cake around here. Next time we have leftover cake, I'll pop it in the freezer until we need a dessert, then I'll make cake balls!

PS-Thank you for your sweet comment on my blog today. :-)

Scrumptious temptations. Love the way the fruit rolls brighten up the cake. Very interesting and effective.

This is sooooo neat! It took me a minute to realize what the deco. was, but I GOT IT! COOL, COOOL, COOOOOL! I love this idea! I could even do it, which is really saying a lot!

By the way, I love the cake balls! They don't remind me any of s#@t balls! Sorry, but that is the first thing I thought of! How do you do that?

Ok, so now I am reading the actual post! I think I can figure the "how to" part from here, but as you can tell, my first attraction is to the pretty pictures!

Cute cake! You always have cute cakes and are creative. You just never give yourself enough credit. You better start or I'm not going to talk to you (I still might have to look at your blog).

You DID get the gene! Maybe not the obsessive-compulsive gene that I did with the need to research the cake shape online and sketch it all out before starting. And there are plenty of creative and funny genes that bypassed the rest of us to stop only with you.

I had that whole tattoo roll ups problem too. I just didn't use them. I didn't even think to wipe them off.:)
