the anti-logic

I had to go grocery shopping. We were dangerously low on milk and other essentials. So, imagine my joy when I happened upon these in the "manager specials" area:

for only:

That made it only $2.50 a gallon for organic milk! Needless to say I purchased all that they had. And it turned out to be a lot, more than I had realized. I never did count, but when I got home and saw them all there in the fridge my mind wondered if, indeed, the girls would be able to consume this much milk before the Oct. 25 date.

I went through in my head the ways we could quickly use up the milk. The one that first popped up was to go buy cereal. The girls like cereal. I went to the store. Again. (I had forgotten food for the dog anyhow, so another trip was not only warrented but also necessary.)

I noticed some of the girls' favorite cereals on special. And one of my childhood favorites as well:

And as I was loading this second batch of groceries into the car it struck me. I bought boxes upon boxes of crappy cereal to get my children to use up the organic milk before the expiration date. Anti-logic. In my defense I also got one somewhat redeeming (I think anyway) cereal:

So the moral of the story? Keep the inner-child firmly IN while grocery shopping.

Having your inner child surface during shopping trips can not be as bad as if those who are currently children had their say in what went into the cart! Do you ever look at something in an aisle for two seconds too long and three aisles later find yourself wondering how all of that crap got into your cart, only to catch your children trying to put on their best "not me" faces?????? The grocery store really does not have an elaborate scam that involves spring loading boxes of things that you would never buy, so that they will strategically flip into your cart when you are not looking! It is not the Keebler Elves either! It is the CHILDREN!!! Ha! The dear, sweet, innocent children!

Not many people realize that milk can be safely frozen to be used later.

When I lived on the farm (some distance from town) I froze milk all the time to reduce the number of shopping trips I had to take.

I didn't know your girls liked bad for you cereal. In fact, when they slept over at my house and I let then chose any kind they wanted, they chose Raisin Bran. I always think of your girls when I see Rasin Bran.

Too funny! I wish they had milk that cheap here! I'd buy out the store too.
It can be frozen...and it really, it is good beyond it's expiration date. We have used it up to a week after. Then it starts to smell and we quit.
Expiration dates are just so they can't keep things forever in the store. =)

Oh...and I didn't know those were bad cereals. LOL! They say they have calcium and "whole grain" in them. That makes it ok right? LOL! My kids love those cereals too, but we never buy them because of the cost. Well...and sugar content. But it's fun for a week isn't it? Something different.

Funny!

I have to admit that I bought organic chocolate marshmallow cream for someone at my house (not it wasn't me). Somehow organic and marshmallow cream seems like an oxymoron.

Your photos are lovely and the scarves are great.
