in the future

I made a lion for a friend who had a baby. Then I decided to make a blanket to match. It can't be too hard to find cute lion flannel, can it? Uh. Think again.

I looked at a few too many stores (oh, I don't love shopping), and spent more than I wanted to, but in the end, I think it turned out well. Next time, I'll find cute flannel then make a toy to match.

I hope he's happy in his new home.

it occurs to me

I remember I was going to share a picture of the rag blanket I made for Doug. It is similar to the ones the girls got for Christmas, only this one is a little bigger.

If you know Doug you know he's a talented musician. He plays piano, and very well. When I saw this musical note flannel at Joann's before Christmas, I knew it was for him. He loves it but unfortunately so does the cat. Tiger thinks it's her wonderful new bed.

We used to home school. The year we put our daughters in public school for the first time Suzy had one of the most amazing teachers I've ever met. I cannot say enough good about her. That was also the year Teacher got married. Suzy and some of her little friends were able to attend the wedding reception.

This year Tessa is in the same teacher's class and this year Teacher is having her first child! We're hitting her milestones well, don't you think? So for this teacher we love I've made a monkey rag blanket & a monkey friend to go with it. Tessa is so excited for Mrs. N, she can hardly stand it.

P.S. I decided to let Tessa name him. She chose Bananas.

a rag blanket christmas

This year I made several rag blankets (or nokies, if you are my friend Michelle). There was one for each of the girls and 3 others for 3 others (those ones I neglected to photograph). I had fabric for a blanket for Doug, but that didn't end up happening until the kids went back to school. I'll post a pic of it later.






Instead of our traditional Christmas eve jammie present, the girls opened the blankies and got to sleep under them while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads.

Maybe next year I'll feel brave enough to attempt sewing jammies!

I love babies. Probably everyone knows I love babies; it's no great secret. My neighbor recently had twin boys so I got my scissors out and started cutting. P.S. I also love rag blankets er, nokies.

more nokies

I've been making smaller (probably receiving blanket size) rag blankets for the NICU. Tessa was sick with the Group B Strep virus when she was born and stayed a little while in the hospital. Upon her release we were given a tote bag with words on the front that read, "NICU graduate." In the bag were a few baby items that are still special to me. A handmade bib and a flannel blanket were among the bag's contents. I'm hopeful that these blankets I'm making will find themselves in graduate bags. I have flannel with sports equipment, duckies and grasshoppers too.

For Christmas my friend, Michelle, made me my very own nokie (her family's word for special blanket). These rag blankets became popular not long after Tessa was born and I remember feeling bummed because I thought they were so cute and wouldn't ever get one for a baby of mine. But I needn't feel sad any long because now I have my own. It is so very warm and snugly. I sleep with it every night.

Oh and my favorite part is that she was able to make it almost completely with flannel she already had! There are pieces from jammies she made the girls and me last year plus parts of other blankies nokies.

Mystery Photo Revealed

Remember my mystery project that I posted about last month? Well, I finally got the finished item in the mail and since it has been received I can post the FO picture!

My friend Michelle taught me how to make a rag quilt! It's the first quilt I've ever made. I cut the squares and sewed them together, then snipped and washed and voila! It was easy and fun. I had enough scraps to make a similar small one that I'll donate to the hospital. Also I mistakenly bought more then twice the flannel needed so I figure I can make some simple blankets to donate as well.

I made it for my friend Jenni who had a baby boy last week! Congratulations Jenni and family on the birth of baby G!
